Bathhouse Thala
A spa in a secluded valley in Hokkaido situated Japan, the country’s northernmost island, where winters are deep and the air carries the scent of snow. Thala Spa is tucked quietly into this landscape, just 64 square meters of stillness shaped by the spirit of Kominka the old wooden farmhouses with steep roofs and exposed beams, homes that have stood through generations of wind and silence.
SC Gotha - Sailing House
This project addresses the lack of proper storage and changing facilities at SC Gothia Sailing Club that trains with Optimist dinghies (Optis). Currently, the boats cannot be stored fully rigged and are exposed to weather conditions, which makes preparation before and after training time-consuming. Additionally, there is no dedicated space to store or dry sailing gear such as wetsuits, drysuits, shoes, and life vests, forcing sailors to take their wet equipment home after each session. The project proposes a solution that includes a sheltered storage area for 10–15 fully rigged boats and a dedicated changing and drying space to improve efficiency, protect equipment, and create a more comfortable training environment.
Community centre
Friedrichstraße 1 is located in a socially mixed area with many families from migration backgrounds and a strong everyday street life. The neighborhood also deals with issues like insecurity and a lack of safe, welcoming public spaces. Because of this, the community center already plays an important role as a place of care, support, and meeting rather than representation. The project responds to this context by focusing on calm, shared experiences instead of control or separation. By introducing guinea pigs as gentle co-inhabitants, the space becomes softer and more approachable, encouraging care, attention, and interaction between different users.
